The number of iconic leading ladies who have made their Broadway debut on its stage alone would assure the Neil Simon Theater’s place in Broadway history. Ethel Merman, Lucille Ball and Liza Minnelli all made their first bows on the Great White Way at this West 52nd Street landmark. In addition, the premieres of ‘Porgy and Bess’ and the original production of ‘Annie’ took place here. Designated an official New York Historical Landmark in the 1980s, the Neil Simon Theater is one of the venerable group of Broadway theaters designed by Herbert J. Krapp in the 1920s.
