Levantine Rhapsody
New York, Corpus Christi Church
About the Event
Embark on a captivating voyage through the realms of music and culture at 'Levantine Rhapsody,' set beneath the awe‐inspiring ceilings of Corpus Christi Church.
In celebration of the Muslim festival Eid al‐Adha, Turkish kanun maestro Didem Basar weaves together both Turkish and Western classical music influences. This musical conversation is enriched by the intricate Turkish maqams (modes), elaborate rhythmic patterns, and remarkable improvisation, all seamlessly blended with compositions embracing an impressionist style.
A quartet of artists familiar to MB1800 from the cherished Constantinople programs enhances our series in its appreciation of early music from around the globe. This program is co‐presented with The World Music Institute.
