Fête de la Musique and the Berlin Twist

Every June 21, Fête de la Musique brings musicians of every genre out into the streets, courtyards, and parks of Berlin. The tradition arrived from France decades ago and has taken its own shape here — classical and crossover ensembles play in places that normally never host them, from museum courtyards in Mitte to side streets in Neukölln. Around the same week, Berlin's open-air concert culture takes hold for the season: large-format performances at the Waldbühne, candlelight events in venues such as MADI - Tent of the senses, and historic-venue programming at Köpenick Palace all run in parallel with the closing nights of the indoor halls.
