About the Event

Andris Nelsons conducts the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra for a concert entirely dedicated to Russian music, featuring pianist Yefim Bronfman.

Shostakovich's powerful Eleventh Symphony was written for the fortieth anniversary of the October Revolution, and it is intended as a firm indictment of oppression in all its forms. Prokofiev wrote his touching and demanding Piano Concerto No. 2 after the suicide of one of his friends.
