The King’s Singers: Bologna Festival, Il Nuovo, L'Antico, L'Altrove
Bologna, Chiesa di Santa Cristina della Fondazza
About the Event
The King's Singers, a renowned a cappella vocal ensemble founded in Cambridge in 1968, have created a new project that explores a sonic polyptych spanning five centuries, from Palestrina to Arvo Pärt. Presenting a concert intertwining iconic symbols of Christianity with music, the group explains that in every Christian church there are statues and paintings depicting Christ, the Virgin, Angels protecting humanity, and Demons threatening it. Each symbol is associated with a triptych of works ranging from William Byrd's 'Haec dies' to Arvo Pärt's 'Zwei Beter,' and from Palestrina's 'Regina Coeli' to the more recent compositions of British composer Geoffrey Poole.
