Soprano Golda Schultz & Jonathan Ware: Schubert's Songs
About the Event
The last week of the season brings another chapter in the ongoing Schubert lied cycle: young South African soprano Golda Schultz, who began her career as a member of the opera studio at Munich’s Bavarian State Opera and has since been heard at the Salzburg Festival and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, performs songs on texts by Goethe, Schiller, and others, accompanied by Jonathan Ware. Among the program’s highlights is Schubert’s very first Goethe setting, Gretchen am Spinnrade, paired here with another scene from Faust, the rarely heard Gretchen im Zwinger.
