Enter an Edwardian world as Sir John Eliot Gardiner conducts Elgar and Mahler's Rückert Lieder. The vivid depiction of turn‐of‐the‐century London in the 'Cockaigne' overture is tempered by the Grand Tour landscapes and Edwardian soul of Elgar's Second Symphony. Recent International Opera Award winner, Swedish mezzosoprano Ann Hallenberg, completes the fin‐de‐siècle atmosphere with Mahler's lusciously romantic songs for voice and orchestra.
