About the Event

On Easter weekend, discover two works inspired by the seven last words of Christ on the Cross: one dating from the end of the 18th century, and one from the end of the 20th century.

Haydn completed his oratorio in 1796. The version to be performed in this concert is the earlier instrumental composition on the theme. Scottish composer James MacMillan composed his cantata on the same subject almost 200 years later.
