Romeo and Juliet with Gulbenkian Orchestra and Choir
About the Event
This operatic version of Romeo and Juliet by the French composer Charles Gounod is surely one of the most popular and most performed worldwide. A star‐studded cast will present Shakespeare´s famous story under the baton of Lorenzo Viotti.
For Romeo and Juliet, Gounod worked with the same team of librettists as he did on his successful adaptation of Faust. The stage version presented at Gulbenkian Music will be directed by Vincent Huguet, a close collaborator of Patrice Chéreau, whose broad, enviable reputation is closely linked to the opera.
