Charles Dutoit conducts a concert version of Richard Strauss' opera 'Salome', with soprano Gun‐Brit Barkmin in the title role.
Based on the French play 'Salomé' by Oscar Wilde, the opera in one act, conjuring a Christian biblical theme with all the sensuality and provocation of Wilde's writing, shocked its audience on the night of its premiere, in 1905, but success quickly followed the initial scandal. The Dance of the Seven Veils has since then mesmerized many opera amateurs around the world.
