About the Event
Young Russian pianist Yulianna Avdeeva opens her recital with Shostakovich’s radical First Piano Sonata, in which the 20‐year‐old composer suspends the traditional rules of form and melody. Bach’s French Overture, a masterpiece of the suite genre, is juxtaposed with a related 20th‐century work by Nikos Skalkottas. Liszt’s monumental B‐minor Sonata, a landmark of the piano repertoire, concludes the program.
