Opening Concert: Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin

About the Event

Works by Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, and Schtschedrin are featured at the opening concert of the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin titled "Longing".

Carmen loves her freedom more than any man and with her death on the opera stag, French composer Georges Bizet immortalized the passionate Andalusian. Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin wrote an orchestral suite of Bizet's famous tunes and with it wrote a new chapter in the history of ballet. In Soviet times, the yearning for freedom dared Dmitri Shostakovich to write his heartfelt Chamber Symphony in A‐flat Major dedicated to the beleaguered friend and colleague Mieczyslaw Weinberg. The program opens with a magical early work of the twelve year old Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
