About the Event

The Turangalîla‐Symphonie is a massive, majestic work, considered to be one of the greatest masterpieces of the 20th century. It is said by Messiaen to be a "love song", inspired by the story of Tristan and Isolde.

With performances typically running 80 minutes in length over 10 movements, key features include four cyclic themes and the unusual Ondes Martenot, a type of early electric piano sounding similar to the theremin. It will be played in this concert by Valérie Hartmann‐Claverie.
