Maurice Ravel: L'heure espagnole

About the Event

Hear Ravel's one‐act opera at the Shanghai Symphony Hall conducted by Zhang Jiemin.

Ravel called his own work an opéra‐bouffe. For the score he used Spanish elements like jotas and habaneras which makes it one of several compositions in which Ravel was influenced by the Spanish tradition. It was first staged in a double‐bill with Massenet's Thérèse in 1911.

In keeping with the Spanish tradition, the evening will open with Ravel's Rapsodie Espagnole.
