Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Marc Albrecht with Christian Tetzlaff

About the Event

In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of classical music by Richard Strauss and Christian Jost at Berlin's treasured and world‐renowned Konzerthaus Berlin.

Premiered in 2020 in a smaller Redux version at the Musikfest Berlin by the Konzerthausorchester, the larger cast version of Christian Jost's Second Violin Concerto from the same year is now premiering, again with soloist Christian Tetzlaff. The composer describes the work as 'dark‐toned' but without 'heaviness weighing on the shoulders. The piece starts off very actively and has very few resting points. It is driven by a strong energy, by forward whipping rhythms, The winds are used in a manner reminiscent of jazzy big band sound, plus a relatively large amount of percussion and piano.'

When a composer uses over a hundred orchestra members to musically portray his private life, it's no surprise that it's Richard Strauss. 'Sinfonia Domestica' is the name of the work premiered in New York in 1904, for which the Konzerthausorchester Berlin under Marc Albrecht will move a little closer together on stage in the Great Hall. From visiting relatives to reproaches and quarrels to reconciliation — not to mention the young son who has his say in the oboe d'amore — nothing is left out that you don't know (albeit less melodically) from your own everyday family life.
