Gustavo Dudamel & Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela: Messiaen

About the Event

Olivier Messiaen's Turangalîla‐symphonie brings diverse musical influences together in a work that is as joyous as it is unique. Gustavo Dudamel conducts Messiaen's masterpiece at Carnegie Hall, with Jean‐Yves Thibaudet performing the virtuoso solo piano part.

The symphony's Sanskrit title has multiple meanings, among them 'love song, and 'hymn to joy', but also 'movement' and 'death'. The sumptuous score includes an extensive percussion section, the electronic ondes Martenot, and solo piano, as well as brass, winds, and a massive string section.
