About the Event

Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1 showcases an intriguing blend of elements, ranging from mysterious sounds of nature to enchanting folk song melodies. The extravagant dance scenes are juxtaposed with moments of tender melancholy, creating a captivating musical experience. Moreover, the symphony's unique touch is enhanced by the grotesquery of a funeral procession, where forest animals carry the hunter to his grave. This grandeur culminates in a finale that unapologetically exposes the abyss of hell, only for heaven to eventually emerge triumphant. In this symphony, Mahler encapsulates everything that sets him apart as an extraordinary composer.

Arnold Schoenberg, a devoted fan of Mahler, demonstrates his admiration through his widely appreciated work, "Transfigured Night." This piece, which is perfectly accessible to a wider audience, skillfully conveys a tale of love and forgiveness without the need for words. Schoenberg artfully employs voluptuous sounds and a technique inspired by Brahms to create a truly captivating depiction of both nature and the human soul. "Transfigured Night" serves as a testament to Schoenberg's artistic prowess and serves as a gateway for listeners to immerse themselves in the depths of emotion and musical eloquence.
