Grafenegg Festival: Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Manfred Honeck
Grafenegg, Transfer to Grafenegg from Vienna Musikverein, Ecke Bösendorferstraße/Canovagasse
About the Event
The majestic sounds of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Manfred Honeck, bring to life the enchanting fairy tales of Russia and China in a truly splendid orchestral performance. Through suites from Igor Stravinsky's "The Firebird" and Giacomo Puccini's "Turandot," the orchestra masterfully captures the raw emotions and vibrant energy of both ballet and opera.
Max Bruch's first violin concerto, known for its beautifully expressive melodies, showcases the talent of celebrated young violinist, María Dueñas. In particular, the Hungarian‐influenced finale of the concerto is so captivating that it alone would be enough reason for Dueñas' dedication to this piece.
However, the concert begins in a different manner altogether, as John Adams poses the question, "You know that feeling when someone offers you a test drive in a stunning sports car and you wish you hadn't accepted?" This moment of near loss of control is transformed into music, with the orchestra acting as the powerful engine of this high‐performance ride.
