About the Event

Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4, also known as the "Romantic," beckons us into a world of mystical beauty, encompassing a diverse range of sounds. The symphony begins with the elemental call of the horns in fifths, leading us on a journey filled with stylized birdcalls, chorales, funeral marches, and blaring hunting sounds. These musical elements transport the listener to a hauntingly romantic nocturnal realm, where visions of darkness and mystery abound. Ultimately, the symphony concludes with the triumphant emergence of a new day, symbolized by the symphonic wolves' canyon in the finale. Sir Simon Rattle, bearing the torch of the Bruckner tradition, assumes the role of Chief Conductor of the renowned Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. Additionally, Rattle's inaugural concert with the Berliner Philharmoniker introduces the works of British composer Thomas Adès, a prominent figure in contemporary music composition.

Conductor:	Sir Simon Rattle Rattle was born in Liverpool, and studied at Liverpool College. He learned the piano and violin, but his early work with orchestras was as a percussionist. He entered the Royal Academy of Music in London in 1971. There he was able to frequently conduct, and in 1974, his graduation year, he won the John Player Conductor Competition. After organising and conducting a stunning account of Mahler's Second Symphony whilst still at the Academy, he was talent spotted by the music agent Martin Campell‐White (source: [1]) and has since been managed by him.
