Rejoice to the strains of Beethoven's most elegant symphony — the Fourth — as Austrian star conductor Welser‐Möst leads the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic in his countryman's exquisitely joyous music.

Shostakovich' Sixth Symphony is ostensibly similarly joyful, but there is an almost frenetic quality to the final movement — a sour laugh behind the burlesque gaiety that is perhaps the composer's outlet for private feelings about the still‐recent official denunciation that threatened to derail his career, and the creative constraints necessary to return to favor.
