About the Event

Experience opera like never before in this astonishing performance of the masterwork by Messager at Paris's remarkable Opéra Comique.

An old notary's wife gives in to the advances of a dashing military man. To divert the husband's attention, they manipulate a very young clerk of the study, Fortunio. However, Fortunio loves the lady of a lost love.
The Opéra Comique is pleased to reschedule it to close the year 2019 with a range of extraordinary performers for whom singing and playing are the result of the same passion.

Lyrical comedy in four acts. Libretto by Gaston Arman de Caillavet and Robert de Flers based on Le Chandelier by Alfred de Musset.
Created at the Opéra Comique in 1907.

Artists

  • Orchestre des Champs-Élysées (Orchestra)
In 1991 Philippe Herreweghe founded the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées. He named it after the theatre to which it was initially affiliated. Its aim: to perform classical and romantic works on the instruments used when the pieces were written. In order to achieve a convincing sound, Herreweghe demands original instruments or, if necessary, has them reconstructed, studying the makeup and placements of period orchestras. After starting with Haydn and Mozart, he has now advanced with his work to Gustav Mahler and Anton Bruckner.
  • Choeur les éléments (Choir)
