Fauré & Rutter's Requiems: Palau de la Música Catalana

About the Event

The Requiem owes its origin to the Christian faith. Traditionally, in his core, it is a prayerful lament for the dead. Since Fauré had no clear religious beliefs, his Requiem is very different from the rest, and thanks to his skepticism, instead of creating a work of gloomy nature, Fauré stands out for the calm, serene and peaceful treatment of the work. Here we find musical comfort in a work that focuses not on the morbid, but on the supposedly calm and fearless nature of death.

Rutter's Requiem is, without a doubt, one of the most acclaimed and performed choral works in the world. It is a work composed for solo soprano, mixed choir and orchestra or ensemble that includes an organ.
