Ensemble de Cælis: The Book of Eleanor

About the Event

Ensemble De Cælis reveals this Medieval gradual in a dynamic interpretation, opening previously unheard perspectives by contrasting it with a newly commissioned work of Philippe Hersant, one of the great composers of our times.

Daughter of John II, Duke of Brittany, Eleanor had been offered by her family a gradual, which was created between 1250 an 1260. After her death in 1342, she bequeathed it to the abbey whose head she had been from 1302. The music contained in it still astonishes with its beauty and casts a unique light on the repertoire of the Haute Epoque.
