Ella van Poucke: Bach, six suites for solo cello

About the Event

Bach's Cello Suites, once relatively unknown, gained recognition in the 20th century when the renowned cellist Pablo Casals rehearsed and recorded them. Other famous cellists followed suit, and today these suites are considered iconic masterpieces. Ella van Poucke will be performing all six suites with two intermissions, allowing her to showcase their power, depth, and distinct characters. The beautiful acoustics of De Waalse Kerk will provide a unique experience for the audience, making this an event not to be missed.

Ella van Poucke, a Dutch cellist, is highly regarded for her musical integrity, flawless instrumental skills, and stage presence. She is among the top cellists of her generation and has been performing since her debut at the Concertgebouw when she was just ten years old. Ella has given concerts in prestigious concert halls both domestically and internationally, and has received numerous awards. As a soloist, she has collaborated with major orchestras in Europe and premiered a cello concerto written for her by Finnish composer Uljas Pulkkis at the Cello Biennale. Additionally, Ella has an extensive career as a chamber musician and frequently performs recitals, often alongside her brother, pianist Nicolas van Poucke. Ella plays a 1620 Maggini cello generously provided to her by an anonymous benefactor.
