Elisabetta, Regina D'Inghilterra: Rossini at Versailles
About the Event
Immerse yourself in the royal histories of England and France, as an Italian's take on the former is presented in the Royal Opera of the latter! A typically operatic mix‐up that creates a luxurious evening for lovers of Rossini.
Written for the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Elisabetta was a huge hit at its premiere, but is rarely performed today. Jean‐Christophe Spinosi of the Theater an der Wien conducts a cast of bel canto stars in one of Rossini's most emotive works, its reinvention of history offering plenty of opportunity to show human nature at its best, and worst, in intensely lyrical writing.
