Elektra: Festspielhaus Baden‐Baden

About the Event

Richard Strauss's opera, "Elektra," played a pivotal role in popularizing modernism. It introduced audiences to the enthralling concept of heroes teetering on the edge of madness. This spectacle is vividly reinforced by the crashing force of Strauss's orchestra, which consists of an impressive ensemble of 111 musicians. Their magical performance not only supports the singers but also pushes them to their limits. In this production, the revered Wagnerian voices of Nina Stemme, in the title role, and Michaela Schuster, as Clytemnestra, engage in a gripping mother‐daughter psychodrama. This intense dynamic is further complemented by the grounded portrayal of Elektra's longing‐for‐love sister, played by Elza van den Heever. It is a delight to witness this extraordinary cast, which forms the "Strauss dream team" of the 2023 Festival, once again.
