Eötvös 80. Concerto Budapest at Müpa Budapest

About the Event

Experience the enchanting beauty of classical music by renowned composers Maurice Ravel, Luciano Berio, and Peter Eötvös at the highly‐anticipated concert held in Budapest's treasured Palace of Arts. Delight in the mellifluous sounds that will resonate throughout this world‐renowned venue.

The piece titled 'Triangel' showcases percussion soloists in a captivating display of their unique instruments and techniques. Eötvös cleverly designed the composition to allow the musicians to express their individual creativity. The ensemble, divided into four groups, reacts both in predetermined and spontaneous ways to the soloist's music. This remarkable composition showcases cadenza techniques used in concerts from a hundred years ago, bringing them to life once more.

This evening's performance will feature Isao Nakamura, who also premiered the piece in 1993, captivating the audience at Müpa Budapest. Berio's Symphony, composed for the 125th anniversary of the New York Philharmonic in 1969, exudes a pessimistic tone. With eight voices and an orchestra, the composition unveils an abstract and grotesque cultural history through the incorporation of diverse musical quotations. These sources range from excerpts from novels by Claude Lévi‐Strauss and Samuel Beckett to instructions to performers from Gustav Mahler's full scores.

Presented in collaboration with the Örkény István Theatre (The performance is in Hungarian), this concert promises an unforgettable evening of classical music that will transport you to a realm of beauty and emotion.
