Divas' whims: musical joust at the Royal Academy of Music
Salle Gaveau, Paris - Main Hall
About the Event
Talented artists offer a performance of a lifetime with the famous divas of Händel's time, such as soprano Francesca Cuzzoni, contralto Anastasia Robinson and castrato Senesino.
When the Royal Academy was created, Händel organized a series of vocal joust between the most famous singers at the time. Myriam Arbouz, Delphine Galou and Paul-Antoine Benos-Djian embody these often whimsical performers and sing a selection of Händel's most virtuoso arias, whereas comedian Philippe Vallepin plays the composer himself.

Les Muffatti (Ensemble)
The ensemble's name refers to the cosmopolitan composer Georg Muffat (1653-1704), a key figure in the orchestra's history, and one of the first writers to describe in detail the great stylistic differences between French and Italian Baroque music.
The central element of Les Muffatti's performance practice is their constant effort to perfect a musical approach that retains the inherent theatricality so elemental to Baroque art.
- Arbouz, Myriam (Soprano)
