Der Ring des Nibelungen: Die Walküre at Teatro Comunale di Bologna

About the Event

On the first day of The Ring of the Nibelung, Wotan, the king and father of the gods, places his hopes on a new chosen race that will be born from his human lineage. This race is to be descended from the twins Siegmund and Sieglinde, who were separated in childhood. However, Sieglinde is now married to Hunding, and according to societal laws, he has the right to claim her honor. Despite the will of a god, the passion of youth, and the fervor of the walkiria Brünnhilde, nature must bow to the implacable decree of Fricka, Wotan's wife and guardian of the family.

After the intense moment when the twins recognize and love each other, proclaiming their freedom from societal constraints through incestuous love, Wotan is forced to accept that Hunding kills Siegmund. In addition, he must punish Brünnhilde for her rebellion, a rebellion that he secretly shares in his heart. The spell of fire that surrounds the sleeping walkiria serves as a poignant farewell from a father to his favorite daughter, Earth, one of Erda's daughters. With this, it is clear that the end of a world is already upon them.
