Death in Venice: Deutsche Oper Berlin

About the Event

Music Director Donald Runnicles continues his Benjamin Britten cycle at the Deutsche Oper Berlin with the composer's final and most personal opera, 'Death in Venice'. British director Graham Vick stages this operatic interpretation of Thomas Mann's novel.

Britten linked his own destiny to the composition of the opera, drawing parallels to the main character, ageing writer Gustav von Aschenbach. Haunted by the fear of his own death, Britten postponed urgent heart surgery in order to complete the opera.
