Danel String Quartet: Shostakovitch, Dusapin & Franck

About the Event

Since the 1970s, the French composer Pascal Dusapin has tried his hand at a great number of musical forms and genres including instrumental solo pieces, chamber music, orchestral works and operas. His first four string quartets, written between 1982 and 1997, demonstrate the evolution in his approach to composition, and are a great example of his works. In 2004, the Quatuor Danel dedicated an album to them. As a true connoisseur of Dusapin, the renowned French ensemble will be performing his Quartet no. 4 (1996‐1997), a sort of diary, the composition of which was inspired by events in international politics at the time. The quartet will then focus on Shostakovich’s Quartet no. 8, a powerful work with a strange and somber atmosphere, before evoking the French post‐Romantic school and its worthy representative, César Franck.
