Subramaniam, Bach & Mendelssohn: Théâtre du Châtelet
Paris, Théâtre du Châtelet — Main Hall
About the Event
Ten years after their incredible “Bach in India” at the Philharmonie, Lakshminarayana Subramaniam returns to the Orchestre de chambre de Paris for a new evening of Indian and Western music. A revolutionary violinist, he is the only musician to move with equal ease between Carnatic classical music (from southern India) and Western classical music, collaborating with orchestras and musicians from all horizons. This evening builds a bridge between his music and that of Bach, with the Tribute to Bach, which blends Baroque harmony and Indian rhythms, and the Concerto for oboe and violin by the Baroque composer. Lakshminarayana Subramaniam also performs his Paris Concerto, written for the Orchestre de chambre de Paris and conducted by Gábor Takács‐Nagy. A renowned conductor after having been a violinist with the Takács Quartet, the musician also conducts the “Scottish” Symphony by Mendelssohn, another admirer of Bach. Contrasting and powerfully evocative, it was begun in 1829 during the composer's trip to Great Britain and completed only in 1842.
