The Théâtre du Châtelet was originally used as a theatre for drama performances and has since been host to a variety of art forms such as ballet, opera, operetta, musicals and cinema. It has had a rich history of prominent guests such as Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, Igor Stravinsky (whose Petrouchka premiered at the Théâtre du Châtelet in 1911) as well as Tchaikovsky, Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss at the baton. Today it is used as an opera house and concert hall. It was built between 1860 and 1862 and seats 2,500 people. Recently it has become the home of the Orchestre de Paris and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Diversity and contemporary arts have always been at the core of the Théâtre du Châtelet.
