Scaramouche and Music Hall: Orchestre de Chambre de Paris
Paris, Théâtre du Châtelet — Main Hall
About the Event
Bourvil, Charles Trenet, and Maurice Chevalier take center stage in this program, as does the composer of hit operettas Francis Lopez, who, in addition to writing *La Belle de Cadix* and *Le Chanteur de Mexico*, served as artistic director of the Théâtre du Châtelet in the early 1970s. It was around this time, in fact, that Hervé Niquet discovered the Parisian arts scene and the capital’s musical life, as glimpsed in the famous television shows hosted by Maritie and Gilbert Carpentier. Hervé Niquet became friends with Madeleine Milhaud, who made him promise to perform a piece that her husband, Darius, had composed for the Lemon Festival in Menton. *Barba Garibo*, a divertissement based on Menton folk themes for mixed choir and orchestra, is indeed one of the highlights of this festive concert. More than just *L’Auberge du Cheval‐Blanc*—excerpts of which are also on the program—this evening promises to be a potluck gathering of musicians who love the Théâtre du Châtelet!
