Wagner/Loriot: The Ring in One Evening at Philharmonie Berlin
Berlin, Philharmonie Berlin — Grosser Saal
About the Event
Loriot's introduction to Richard Wagner's world of gods with Jan Josef Liefers.
Richard Wagner occupied a very special place in Loriot's life. So how could Loriot not create his very own version of Wagner's “Ring” as an entertaining summary of the four operas, freely based on the motto “Everything you always wanted to know about Siegfried”? He managed to condense Wagner's 16‐hour opus into a single evening and finally shed light on the complicated plot – in an amusing and astute manner.
For years, “Ring in One Evening,” which Loriot often and gladly performed himself, has delighted laymen and Wagnerians alike. Jan Josef Liefers, one of Germany's most popular actors, guides us through “The Ring of the Nibelung,” which will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026. As forensic pathologist Dr. Boerne, Liefers has been sweetening his work in the “Münster Tatort” with Wagner operas for more than 20 years, teasing his colleague with constant jibes as “Alberich.” But instead of playing Boerne, Liefers immerses himself completely in Wagner's world of the Nibelungs with Loriot's text this evening. The musical part, featuring major scenes from “Das Rheingold,” “Die Walküre,” “Siegfried,” and “Götterdämmerung,” will be performed by a top‐class ensemble of soloists and the Staatskapelle Weimar under the baton of Heiko Mathias Förster.
