Swedish Chamber Orchestra
Berlin, Philharmonie Berlin — Kammermusiksaal
About the Event
Virtuosity, precision, and musical creativity define this concert evening with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Martin Fröst, who will also perform as a soloist. As the winner of the 2014 Léonie Sonning Music Prize—one of the world’s highest musical honors—the Swedish clarinetist, conductor, and exclusive Sony Classical artist was the first clarinetist to receive this distinction. He thus joins a prestigious list of previous laureates, including Igor Stravinsky and Sir Simon Rattle. The program centers on highlights of the Viennese Classical period. It opens with two contemporary works by Jacob Mühlrad and Martin and Göran Fröst, followed by Mozart’s famous Clarinet Concerto—one of the most heartfelt and, at the same time, most virtuosic solo concertos in music history. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, which unfolds its irresistible rhythmic energy and dance‐like verve—one of the composer’s most rousing creations to this day.
