About the Event

Experience a grand choral and orchestral concert in Berlin! W. A. Mozart’s Requiem has been one of the most beloved works of sacred music for over 200 years. The event shines with breathtaking richness of sound—the combination of the concert hall, choir, and orchestra lends the performance a unique expressiveness. The Ensemble Polisono, under the baton of conductor Volker Hedtfeld, and the Karl‐Forster Choir bring experienced musicians to the stage.
The Requiem in D minor, composed in 1791, is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s final composition. Although only about two‐thirds of it was actually written by Mozart, it remains one of his most beloved and highly regarded works. Mozart died while composing it. Joseph Eybler and Franz Xaver Süßmayr, students of Mozart, completed the Requiem on behalf of Constanze Mozart, the composer’s widow. The unusual circumstances surrounding the commission and the timing of Mozart’s untimely death have also given rise to a rich body of myths. The ensemble, founded in the summer of 2019 by Volker Hedtfeld, brings together selected Berlin soloists to create a unique polyphonic sound.

The Polisono Berlin ensemble was born out of a desire to bring to life the multifaceted, pulsating, breathing, and vibrant spirit of Berlin: dialogical, diverse, unconventional, bold, lively, and constantly renewing itself. Thus, the Polisono Berlin ensemble is committed, on the one hand, to the contemporary performance of historical music, and on the other, to the discovery and promotion of what is yet to be written.
The Karl‐Forster‐Chor Berlin was founded by singers from the choir of St. Hedwig’s Cathedral and named after its cathedral music director. The shaping of the timbre and the pursuit of precision are the essential characteristics of the choir’s work, which have made it a distinctive ensemble on the Berlin choral scene. Under the artistic direction of Volker Hedtfeld, it consistently succeeds in sparking a connection between the choir and the audience, making every concert a special listening experience.
