About the Event

Gustavo Dudamel is one of the most influential figures in the international music scene: Starting with the 2026–27 season, the Venezuelan star conductor will serve as “Music & Artistic Director” of the storied New York Philharmonic. He thus follows in the footsteps of famous predecessors such as Gustav Mahler, Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, and Kurt Masur. Prior to this, Dudamel served for many years as Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He is internationally renowned not only for his musical excellence but also for his commitment to the social power of music. Around the world, he advocates for music’s ability to unite, heal, and inspire—whether through performances at the United Nations, the White House, the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, or as a contributor to the New York Times’ “Turning Points” essay series.

In October, Dudamel will travel to Berlin for the first time in his new role with the New York Philharmonic, bringing Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 with him. This work combines emotional depth, dramatic contrasts, and visionary soundscapes—ideal conditions for Dudamel’s expressive yet precise interpretation. The first part of the concert will feature the newly commissioned composition “Imágenes mestizas” by Cuban‐American composer, conductor, and educator Tania León. The Pulitzer Prize for Music laureate is one of the most influential musical figures of her generation.
