David Hermlin and his Swing Dance Orchestra: Swing is the Thing
Berlin, Philharmonie Berlin — Kammermusiksaal
About the Event
This program pays tribute to never‐forgotten artists of the golden era at the highest level.
With “Swing is the Thing,” the golden age of swing lives on in all its infectious energy. The Swing Dance Orchestra presents the unforgettable classics of the 1930s and early 1940s—faithfully performed in original arrangements and with great attention to detail. Look forward to global hits like “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Minnie The Moocher,” “Begin The Beguine,” and “Sing Sing Sing,” which have lost none of their charm to this day.
Since the start of this season, David Hermlin has been conducting the orchestra, carrying on the musical tradition of his father, Andrej Hermlin, with fresh energy and great authenticity. Together with singer Rachel Hermlin and an excellent ensemble, he successfully strikes a balance between historical authenticity and a vibrant stage presence.
In addition to the familiar classics, visitors can also look forward to rarely performed arrangements and surprising discoveries. “Swing is the Thing” is thus not only a tribute to the great legends, but also a concert experience brimming with charm, rhythm, and timeless joie de vivre.
