About the Event

Ivo Pogorelich is considered a genius at the piano and an enfant terrible, as well as nothing less than “the most radical and exciting thinker among the great pianists” (Süddeutsche Zeitung). It was not without reason that the Münchner Merkur recently wrote after a concert: Ivo Pogorelich “takes your breath away.” It all began with a scandal: in 1980, at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Martha Argerich and other jurors left the jury when Pogorelich was not admitted to the final round – even then, he knew how to polarize the music world. At least he was allowed to accept the special prize for his “exceptionally original pianistic talent.”

Pogorelich's performances have cult status among audiences and the press: his inimitable virtuosity and technical perfection, his characteristic, unconventional interpretations, and his fearless spirit of adventure are absolutely unique – and can be experienced again in Berlin when the exceptional Croatian pianist guests at the Philharmonie with a pure Beethoven program.
