Carmen Suite & Capriccio Espagnol: Konzerthausorchester Berlin

About the Event

Rodion Shchedrin's 'retelling' of Bizet's "Carmen", and Nikolai Rimsky‐Korsakov's "Capriccio espagnol" both feature influence from the musical tradition of Spain.

In adapting the Bizet opera, Shchedrin used the famous melodies but added new rhythms and changed the orchestration, often featuring a percussion section. It is the Russian composer's best‐known piece. A similar percussion section is also a distinctive feature of "Capriccio espagnol".

In addition to these two pieces Glière's Horn Concerto, one of the major works in the horn repertoire, will be performed by Premysl Vojta.
