C. Saint‐Saëns Christmas Oratorio at St. Stephen’s Cathedral

About the Event

In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of classical music by Fauré, Rimsky‐Korsakov and Saint‐Saëns at Vienna's treasured and world‐renowned St. Stephen's Cathedral.

Off to the cathedral! Leave the Christmas hustle and bustle at the gates of the cathedral and look forward to atmospheric, pre‐Christmas choral music by young singers in the impressive nave. Romantic and neo‐classical compositions by Camille Saint‐Saëns, Gabriele Fauré, Nikolai Rimsky‐Korsakov and Engelbert Humperdinck form the focus of the concert.

Around the enchanting‐sounding 'Oratorio de Noël' by Camille Saint‐Saëns you will hear a diverse programme of choral music for Advent and Christmas. This year, the Vienna‐wide children's and youth choirs will sing in German, French, Latin, Polish, Russian and Ukrainian. In this way they want to set an example for international understanding and peace.

Choral singing at the music schools of the City of Vienna is primarily anchored at the Singschule. The singing school lessons with the main subject Vienna Children's Voices appeal to all the senses and in this way enable every child to gain their first musical experience. The advanced choral and vocal training is continued in the Vienna‐wide children's and youth choirs (Vienna ABC Choirs, Vienna Children's Choir, Vienna Crescendo Choir, Vienna Girls' Choir, Vienna Youth Choir) including accompanying singing lessons.

This year, the advanced singers of the Vienna Children's Choir, the Vienna Girls' Choir and the Vienna Youth Choir are looking forward to the opportunity to sing in the festive ambience of the cathedral — and to give you a contemplative hour and a mood for Christmas.
