Brandenburg Summer Concerts: The Windsbacher Boys Choir in St. Mary's Church Beeskow

About the Event

The Windsbacher Knabenchor, a popular guest at the Brandenburg Summer Concerts, occupies an exceptional position among children's and youth choirs thanks to the continuous top‐level training of its singing talents in its own boarding school. Only very few ensembles worldwide can achieve a similar vocal and tonal homogeneity. Under the direction of the new choir director Ludwig Böhme, the more than 40 boys in Beeskow sing a spiritual‐secular program. Classical chorales and motets by Bach and Schein will be heard, as well as secular, contemporary pieces from around the world.

Begun in the 12th century, the sublime brick church in Beeskow in Oder‐Spree defied the turmoil, plagues and wars of Brandenburg for over seven centuries. But it was not until the terrible fighting towards the end of the Second World War that the church was almost destroyed when the roof truss burned out and collapsed. With tremendous effort , which continues to this day, the sublime house of worship was and is being rebuilt. The scars are still visible and bear witness to how endangered civilization and culture are even in Brandenburg, which has been peaceful for 70 years. The town of Beeskow is located directly on the Spree River and can be explored by land and water before the concert.
