Barbier & Lecocq: Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista

About the Event

Two provincial singers are preparing to play Gounod's Faust in a modest theatre, but because of a daring quarrel they are missing out on the stage… A circus tamer shows up at the home of a Russian billionaire (to settle the score with him), who is actually just his disguised servant. Funny misunderstandings guaranteed. Combining these two funny works in one act, the show speaks in a decidedly brazen and playful way about the condition of the artists in the nineteenth century. For the occasion, the Palazzetto Bru Zane brings together a master of operetta such as Charles Lecocq and Frédéric Barbier, a composer whose comic talent deserves to be finally appreciated in its proper value.
