Bösendorfer Series: Lestari Scholtes

About the Event

Experience the breathtaking architecture of Amsterdam's De Waalse Kerk and immerse yourself in an extraordinary concert that will awaken your understanding of music.

Pi Children's Corner, the name says it all, a program of delightful music full of childlike innocence. Lestari Scholtes titled this program after Debussy's piece of the same name, which he dedicated to his own little daughter Chouchou. The six movements are full of humor and swinging music, but also occasionally touch a sensitive chord. Before that, we first hear Mozart's variations on the well‐known children's song that we know as Always is Kortjakje Ziekje and two works by Chopin, including the famous Minutenwalt. After intermission we hear Schumann's much‐loved Kinderszenen, as a reminder that even in every adult there is still sometimes a child, even a composer of Schumann's caliber. Lestari ends the evening with Tchaikovsky's folk‐inspired Dumka, a stunning display of pianistic fireworks.

In addition to her pianistic career, Lestari is artistic director of the Friends of Chamber Music series in Amsterdam. She has also been artistic director of the Piano Duo Festival Amsterdam with Gwylim Janssens since 2013. From 2018‐2021, Lestari was chief programmer of the Grachtenfestival. She currently programs the classical concerts of the Vondelpark Open Air Theater in Amsterdam, among other things. She is also principal study piano teacher at the ArtEZ Conservatory of Music in Arnhem, where she teaches the young talent class and preliminary course.
