Australian Art Orchestra at Pierre Boulez Saal

About the Event

Immerse yourself in the stunning architecture of Berlin's breathtaking Pierre Boulez Saal for the ultimate concert set to awake your understanding of music.

To musically illuminate the points of contact between different disciplines and cultures in order to develop new forms from them: This is the aim of the Australian Art Orchestra's programmes, which reflect the energy and diversity of Australia in the 21st century. The emphasis is on improvisation. Hand to Earth is a joint project of Daniel Wilfred, who maintains the 40,000‐year‐old singing tradition of the Yolgnu people in northern Australia, and Sunny Kim, one of Korea's most sought‐after jazz vocalists. Together they sing about timeless things: stars, fire, refreshing rain. Instrumental support is provided by trumpeter and composer Peter Knight, didgeridoo player David Wilfred and clarinettist Aviva Endean.

Pierre Boulez Saal

The Pierre Boulez Hall is the hall of the Barenboim‐Said Academy. Designed by Frank O. Geary, the hall opened in March 2017 in Berlin, Germany. The hall was named in tribute to French conductor and composer Pierre Boulez, a name suggested by the Argentinian‐Israeli pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim. Despite being essentially a chamber venue, the structure has a cuboid shape that can accommodate medium‐sized orchestras, and up to 682 visitors. Architect and musicians alike seek to offer a 360 degree perspective on music, combining styles, cultures and viewpoints in the space.
