About the Event

Mathieu Romano, James Bonas, and Ewan Jones skillfully bring together the diverse talents of the Maîtrise, including singing, theatre, and dance, to create a delightful and thought‐provoking utopia that will captivate both young audiences and adults who share a love for opera.

The storyline explores themes of societal conformity and rebellion through the perspective of a youth who disappears into thin air, another who rejects societal expectations and lives in hiding, a society that promotes false happiness, and yet another who flees from the law and seeks refuge. It navigates the complexities of growing up and the choice to conform or break free, blurring the lines between two contrasting worlds.

Commissioned by the Opéra‐Comique for the Maîtrise Populaire, this operatic fiction is based on a compelling libretto by Adrien Borne, who drew inspiration from his workshops with the Maîtrise's talented pupils. The score, composed by renowned children's composer Isabelle Aboulker, adds depth and emotion to the narrative.

This production promises to be a unique and enchanting experience, showcasing the talent and creativity of the Maîtrise while also addressing relevant social issues. With Romano, Bonas, and Jones at the helm, audiences can expect a powerful and engaging performance that will simultaneously entertain and provoke thought.
