Amleto at Teatro Filarmonico
About the Event
'To be or not to be' is indeed the question as Franco Faccio's Shakespeare‐inspired rarity returns to the stage. Saimir Pirgu leads a strong cast, under the baton of Francesco Ivan Ciampa, in a production by Paolo Valerio.
With a libretto by Arrigo Boito, later to write Falstaff and Otello for Giuseppe Verdi, Faccio's work was beset by difficulties in its original performances, and fell out of the canon as its composer turned to conducting. Revived in 2014, the work was presented at the Bregenzer Festspiele in 2016, and has attracted a renewed interest, as one of only a handfu of operatic representations of Shakespeare's troubled Dane.
