Alison Balsom & Radio Philharmonic Orchestra

About the Event

Although Chinese composer Qigang Chen has been living in France, the traditional music of his homeland still plays an important role in his work. His new trumpet concerto Joie éternelle speaks volumes. This contemporary work will be performed by star‐trumpetist Alison Balsom together with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Hans Graf.

In 1945 Paul Hindemith was commissioned by conductor Robert Shaw to write a piece in memory of President Roosevelt. The result was his "When lilacs last in the dooryard bloom'd" after a poem by Walt Whitman.
