A Percussive Night with SSO

About the Event

A special concert with percussion at the heart of the program. Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin might not be a familiar name to a Chinese audience, but he is a fearless musical innovator in the iron curtain era of the Soviet Union. His Carmen Suite, initially banned by the Soviet hierarchy for being "disrespectful" to Bizet’s opera, sets the original music to new rhythms and often phrases with a great deal of sly wit.
